"I went to the filthy bathroom and got down on my knees. 'God, teach me to pray,' I begged. I remained there a long time, and when I arose and left the room, I knew I never had to drink again. I came to believe, that day, that God would help me maintain my sobriety. Since then, I’ve come to believe that He will help me with any problem. – Birmingham, Alabama, USA"

I keep changing my prayers, trying to keep them simple & selfless. I think just an attempt at praying is ok, it gets thru to God, then He/She helps us sort it out.
Thank you so much for your comment on my blog about the 4th & 8th steps. Your wisdom helped me so much. I know what I need to do now, it's really very simple, but you helped me to see that.
Love You, Sharon
I think the God of alcoholics...has to go in some pretty yucky places...I know he followed me in some real scary spots.
Uhhh, OK, now I get it!!!
Meg have you been told today? That you are loved, I mean? Well you are , by me!!!
Hey word ver spells out jilyben ...maybe He is telling me to eat some jelly beans???
ooops... I forgot to ask, how is Charlie Mack doin'?
My God told me to find a clean toilet(if I had to have a toilet). Thank God my prayers are answered today as long as I am practicing the spiritual principals in all my affairs. And when I first got here and if that dirty toilet was what I had to do, you can bet I'd be doing it. Clean toilets--a new freedom. :+)
I guess because my immune system is so compromised from cirrhosis that that picture sends chills down my spine. I love you Meg and thanks for the lovely breakfast yesterday.
God will go where ever He is needed
Happy Friday gurlie and thanks for the sweet words : )
Praying in a bathroom as such is much better than bending over that toilet and upchucking all that poison we once knew how to put in our bodies.
Gee, you reminded me that toilets, any type (filthy et al) used to be my second home. Nowadays, I tried to avoid (if possible and I can still stand it) any public toilet.
See you around, Meg.
How powerful is that. This is the strongest post I have read on prayer.
Well, He's everywhere, but we leave him out of the bathroom.
Would you (or anyone else reading this) have a recovery post for the Carnival of All Substances?
It's July 10, 2007. Thanks. Here's the submission link.

What I mean is, in the Jewish faith, the bathroom's not considered the best (holiest) place for prayer.
But I'm not judging, honest.
Hey--THanks for the visits. Just wanted to say that I remember this old timer, years and years ago, saying the only real prayer was: Lord show me your will for me today and give me the guts to do it. I thought he was nuts because I was soooooo not sober yet. Now, I think he's just so wise!
Be well,
Martha
It's amazing how God rescues us when we ask him for help and help for prayer. I remember a desperate situation when I only had two months where I asked my sponsor what to do and she told me to pray even though "I didn't feel it or know how". Thank goodness He listens even when we don't know what the heck we're doing.
powerful!
Lol at therapydoc -- true dat! ;-)
I'm with Noor Azman on this one. I never did pray in bathrooms, unless it was for G-d to have let me buy good dope. I used many rest rooms for shooting dope and now can barely walk into a public restroom STILL.
I love the Came To Bleieve book though and this is a powerful piece.
Peace,
Scout
